The short answer

The Powerheart G3 Pro uses model 9131 adult pads or its own 9660 polarized pads, model 9730 pediatric attenuated pads for children under 8, and either a 9145 Intellisense lithium battery or a 9144 rechargeable one. The pad date shows through the lid, and a green Rescue Ready indicator means it's ready.

Key facts

  • Adult pads: model 9131 (non-polarized) or 9660 (polarized, G3 Pro only); ZOLL publishes no shelf life, so go by the package date.
  • Child pads: model 9730 pediatric attenuated pads, for children under 8 or under 55 pounds.
  • Battery: 9145 Intellisense lithium, 5-year shelf life; ZOLL's Italian guide guarantees it for 1 year after it goes in, or 12 hours of operation.
  • Rechargeable option: 9144 lithium-ion, guaranteed for 2.5 years or 300 charge cycles; its 9044 charger is sold separately.
  • Units numbered 9300P-2xx, sold before 2007, lost factory repairs, batteries and pads on January 1, 2016.

Cardiac Science Powerheart G3 Pro at a glance

The Powerheart G3 Pro (model 9300P) is the professional member of Cardiac Science's G3 family, with an ECG display and a manual override. ZOLL, which acquired Cardiac Science in 2019, no longer lists it among its US AEDs.

The FDA's summary describes the G3 Pro as an AED for professional rescuers, with an ECG display and a manual override. It has three operating modes. It starts in AED mode, where it analyzes the rhythm, charges and tells the rescuer to press Shock. In Manual mode, for rescuers trained in advanced life support, the rescuer reads the ECG display and decides whether to shock; pressing the manual button twice turns it on, and the AED then charges. ECG Monitoring mode uses a 3-lead cable. An optional setting, made with MDLink software, keeps the AED in manual mode.

ZOLL's quick reference gives the model number as 9300P. The FDA's summary prints 9000P, which looks like a typo, since FDA recall records and ZOLL's 2016 notice also say 9300P. ZOLL posts the G3 Pro quick reference only in languages other than English; the details on this page come from the Italian edition and the FDA's 2018 summary.

Other Cardiac Science Powerheart (now ZOLL) models we cover: Cardiac Science Powerheart G5 and Cardiac Science Powerheart G3 Plus.

Cardiac Science Powerheart G3 Pro pads

The Powerheart G3 Pro takes the standard G3 adult pads, model 9131, or its own polarized pads, model 9660. ZOLL doesn't publish a shelf life for either, so replace them by the date on the package and after every use.

The G3 Pro uses two adult pads. Model 9131 is the standard G3 pad: non-polarized, so it doesn't matter which pad goes where. Model 9660 is a polarized pad, and the FDA lists it as an approved accessory for the G3 Pro only; each 9660 pad has to go exactly where its package shows. Both are single use.

Keep a fresh, sealed pair plugged in, store pads at room temperature, and keep the expiration date visible through the window in the lid. The quick reference says the pads have a limited shelf life but gives no figure, and ZOLL doesn't publish one elsewhere, so go by the date on your own package.

Using the Cardiac Science Powerheart G3 Pro on children

Yes. For a child under 8 or under 55 pounds (25 kg), use the model 9730 pediatric attenuated pads; if none are available, ZOLL's guide says to use adult pads.

For a child younger than 8 or weighing less than 25 kg (55 pounds), the quick reference names the model 9730 pediatric attenuated pads, the same 9730 pads used on the G3 and G3 Plus. If no pediatric pads are available, it says to use adult pads instead. The FDA approved the 9730 pads with the G3 Pro in 2018. ZOLL doesn't publish their shelf life, so track the date printed on the package.

For the general rules on child pads, ages and placement, see our guide to pediatric AED pads.

Cardiac Science Powerheart G3 Pro battery

The Powerheart G3 Pro ships with either the 9145 Intellisense lithium battery or the 9144 rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Both have a 5-year shelf life from manufacture, but their guarantees once in use are very different.

The 9145 Intellisense lithium battery is a lithium sulfur dioxide pack that can't be recharged and gives up to 290 shocks. The 9144 is a rechargeable lithium-ion battery; its charger, model 9044, is sold separately. Both have a 5-year shelf life counted from the manufacture date.

Once in use, the two differ. ZOLL's Italian quick reference gives the 9145 a full replacement guarantee lasting 1 year after it goes in or 12 hours of operation, whichever is sooner. That's ZOLL's figure from that one document, though the FDA's 2018 summary also gives the 9145 a 1-year standby life; confirm the term for your own battery with ZOLL before you plan around it. The 9144 is guaranteed for 2.5 years or 300 charge cycles, whichever comes first, with at least 60 shocks (about 100 typical) per charge.

These are the parts a G3 Pro owner replaces, with Cardiac Science's model numbers. The 9131 and 9730 pads are shared with the G3 and G3 Plus; the 9660 polarized pads are for the G3 Pro only.

Support depends on the unit's age. G3 Pro units numbered 9300P-2xx, sold before 2007, lost factory support on January 1, 2016: Cardiac Science stopped repairing them and supplying their batteries and electrodes. We found no end-of-sale or end-of-service notice for later 9300P units. The 9144 rechargeable battery isn't on the FDA's approved-accessory list for the G3 Pro, which names only the 9145, so ask ZOLL whether it's still supplied.

Cardiac Science Powerheart G3 Pro self-test and status indicator

The Powerheart G3 Pro tests itself daily, weekly and monthly. Its Rescue Ready indicator turns green when the battery and pads are installed correctly and the test passes, and red when the AED isn't ready.

Like the rest of the G3 family, the G3 Pro runs automatic self-tests every day, week and month, and shows the result with a beep and the Rescue Ready indicator. After a battery goes in, the indicator should turn green once the battery and pads are seated correctly and the self-test passes; red means the AED isn't ready for a rescue.

For details such as the standby temperature range, the quick reference refers to the full Operation and Service Manual. We didn't find that manual on ZOLL's website, so ask ZOLL for it if you need the range.

If the indicator ever shows a problem, our guide to AED self-test failures and status lights covers what to do first.

Cardiac Science Powerheart G3 Pro maintenance checklist

Keeping a G3 Pro ready means a green Rescue Ready indicator, in-date pads plugged in with their date visible through the lid, and a battery inside its guarantee. Check them regularly and after every use.

  • The Rescue Ready indicator is green and the AED isn't beeping.
  • A fresh, sealed pair of 9131 or 9660 pads is plugged in, with the expiration date showing through the lid window and not yet passed.
  • Any 9730 pediatric pads are sealed and within their date.
  • A 9145 battery is inside its guarantee, or a 9144 rechargeable battery is charged and inside its 2.5-year or 300-cycle limit.
  • Spare pads are stored at room temperature.
  • The case is clean and undamaged, and rescue supplies are with the AED.

How AED Log tracks the Cardiac Science Powerheart G3 Pro

In AED Log you pick the Cardiac Science Powerheart G3 Pro from the built-in catalog, record its pads and battery with their lot numbers and dates, and get a warning before either expires, plus a monthly inspection reminder.

Each pad set and battery is its own record with its own expiration date, so a pad set or battery never lapses unnoticed. Choose the part from the catalog and its shelf life fills in the expiration date for you; you can always type the date printed on the package instead. Alerts go out by email, Slack, Teams or Discord to the people responsible for that site, and the monthly inspection checklist asks about the status indicator, the pads and the battery. See pad and battery expiration tracking and AED management for more, or see every AED model.

Cardiac Science Powerheart G3 Pro FAQ

How long do Cardiac Science Powerheart G3 Pro pads last?

ZOLL doesn't publish a shelf life for the G3 Pro's pads: 9131 adult, 9660 polarized adult or 9730 pediatric. The expiration date is on the package and shows through the lid window; replace the pads by that date and after every use.

How long does the Cardiac Science Powerheart G3 Pro battery last?

Both G3 Pro batteries have a 5-year shelf life before use. ZOLL's Italian guide guarantees the 9145 lithium battery for 1 year after it goes in or 12 hours of operation, and the 9144 rechargeable for 2.5 years or 300 charge cycles. Confirm your battery's term with ZOLL.

Can you use the Cardiac Science Powerheart G3 Pro on a child?

Yes. For a child under 8 or under 55 pounds (25 kg), use the model 9730 pediatric attenuated pads. If none are available, ZOLL's guide says to use adult pads.

What batteries does the Powerheart G3 Pro take?

The 9145 Intellisense lithium battery, which isn't rechargeable, or the 9144 rechargeable lithium-ion battery, whose charger (model 9044) is sold separately. The FDA's approved-accessory list for the G3 Pro names only the 9145.
